Ixcanul

In a village on the slopes of an active volcano in Guatemala, a marriage is arranged for 17-year-old María by her Kaqchikel parents. Forbidden to leave the village, María can only dream of seeing the big city but when events take an unexpected and sudden turn she finds herself catapulted into this unknown and alien world.

This beautiful and gentle film is the debut feature of director Jayro Bustamante and winner of The Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival 2015.
