Food and Shelter

Rocío, a young single mother, struggles to provide for herself and her son with no permanent or reliable work to ensure food on the table and a roof over their heads. Fearful of losing custody of her son and on the verge of being evicted, time is against her to find a seemingly impossible solution.

A poignant and challenging story with an incredible cast and a stunning performance by Natalia de Molina as Rocío. Director Juan Miguel del Castillo captures the difficulties of the the economic crisis in Spain, depicted through acts such as evictions and feelings of precariousness and helplessness with clarity, transparency and poignancy.

“The economic crisis reflected in the Spain of evictions and in the sustained precariousness, needed to find its proper reflect in a movie like Food and Shelter which, from its own title, shows that its trademark is transparency, clarity and the ability of synthesis.”  (Jordi Costa – El País)

Food and Shelter is one of the best radiographies of the now and today addressed by Spanish cinema in the last years.” (Mirrito Toreiro – Fotogramas)
