Lovers: A True Story

Based on a true story and set in 1950s Spain, Amantes tells the story of Paco, a young man who finds himself in Madrid in search of a job after leaving the army. His plans to return to his home town and marry his girlfriend are threatened when he begins a torrid affair with his alluring older landlady. Seduced and obsessed, Paco is left to make an inescapable decision.

23 Years on, this masterpiece by Vicente Aranda continues to play an important role in Spanish cinema.
